2009 Memories

Thursday, December 31, 2009

I once read somewhere that we do not remember time as a continuum but as a series of events.

I think that explains why a year can feel like it dragged on or why it flew by, depending on what the happenings of that year was.

Looking back over this past year's events, my memory draws on what I wrote one year ago, in this blog entry about the most eventful year of our adult lives, 2008. We were faced with so much unfamiliarity. It was a new journey when our consciousness of what was around us and going on inside of us, was so vivid and intense. We were completely aware of the time that passed us by. That would probably explain why 2008 was a year that dragged on for us.

On New Year's Eve of 2008, I said a prayer that 2009 would be a year of fewer moves, fewer doctor appointments, financial stability, and new friendships.

Every single one of those came true in 2009!

How do I begin to express my heart and how that makes me feel?

I cherish these gifts all the more because of the rough edges we experienced when not having these things. It's funny how, when we're in the midst of a storm, we beg for it stop, and when it does, the perspective we gained while living in that storm, makes all the difference to produce a happy life. We discover all of our senses are more keen to enjoy life in such an active way that we could have never done so without the chiseling of that storm.

I feel the intensity of the preciousness of Cayman's life more because I also experienced what it's like to grieve the loss of her.

I feel the blessedness of having a home of our home more because I experienced the unsettledness of seven moves within five years.

I feel the comfort of a stable income even more after knowing what it is like to wonder where next month's income will come from.

I cherish the fact that Mike has a short 2 mile drive to work and is home everyday for lunch. For his last job, he traveled an hour each way, and his job before that one worked him 70 hours a week and still demanded more.

I appreciate settling near our families after living three years apart from them and missing out on so many of their get togethers.

I have learned something about reality and that is, perspective is everything. And my perspective today is, I am living my dream life!!

After surviving so many rough times, I do not forget very easily to take the time to appreciate life’s beautiful moments. And boy, 2009 was full of them!!

Happy New Year!!

Christmas Review, Part 3

On Christmas Day, later in the day, we joined my extended family for their Christmas celebration.
For the past several years, our family's Christmas get together has been at my cousin Linda and her husband, Nate's house.

I love coming to Linda's home. Just like her mom {my Aunt Carol}, Linda has that special eye for all things decorative and fanciful. Specifically, she has a distinguish love for Christmas trees and there is one around every corner in her house.

Here are some of them...

If I could have gotten it to fit, I would have stuck this one in my van and taken it home
as well as
this clock (see below)!

I just love it and I have a specific spot on my living room wall that could use a beautiful clock like this!
That's the start of my Christmas list for next year.
(*wink, wink* Mike)

There was so much yummy food!!

This is my cousin Angela and my absolute best friend from my childhood. Even though we lived many miles apart, we were always close. She is also my very own personal wardrobe consultant. She has kept me from being a fashion don't. If I ever look trendy, it's because of this cherished girl.

Sweet little baby Piper asleep in Aunt Linda's arms.
My how she's grown since Thanksgiving.
And just to clarify, "Aunt Linda, I am referring to Piper." ;)

And now Piper is getting some cuddles in with Grandma.
You know how babies are at gatherings like this...they get passed around frequently. We all want our chance to enjoy that sweet baby smell.

This is a funny picture.
"Why?" you might be wondering.
Well, because it's a picture of Tyson taking a picture of me, taking a picture of him, while he's taking a picture of me...you get the idea. :)

We're kind of a rather large group and the poor shoe racks just couldn't hold up.

Traditionally, we play the Gift Grab game with a different twist on it each year. For example, in the past we once had to buy something that was blue and started with the letter "P". This year, the assignment was to make an ornament. I forgot to take a picture of the one I made but it looked similar to this one (see below) which I also knitted. The one for the Gift Grab though was a deep fuchsia color and the cables were slightly different.

Daddy and Cayman, playing with their electronics again.

*There are two more parts left to our blessed Christmas celebrations. Stay tuned!

On the Mend

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Cayman has her first ear infection, which has landed in both of her ears. Poor baby! She's been miserable and running a high fever but thankfully no seizures this time. With the help of an antibiotic and lots of cuddling, she is on the mend.

Christmas Review, Part 2

On Christmas morning, Santa dumped 200 balls in our family room for Cayman!

Literally!

Cayman seemed to be quite happy about it!

Christmas Review, Part 1

Tuesday, December 29, 2009

Christmas Eve was spent with the extended Stamm clan.

The three little Stamm girls...
CeCe, Cayman, and Sidney.
And check out Cayman's awesome standing!!
(she's leaning against the chair)

Opening gifts.

CeCe and Sidney "sword" fighting with their crayon banks.
No worries, nothing got broken.

A photo of Grandma Sue (Mike's mom) with her three girls.

And one with their Aunt Sam (Mike's sister).

There's little Cayman's hands up in the air, sneaking into the picture...

Ok, so I guess she didn't care about being in the picture. Cayman just wanted to pull the bow out of her hair.

It cracks me up the way Cayman is staring at her enormous crayon bank.

Princess CeCe.

Cousin Haley delivering a little goody bag to us.

CeCe hugged her snow globe closely as she hid far behind the chair in hopes everyone would forget about that present she opened during the family's Gift Grab game so it would not be stolen.

The adorable baby Anderson, the newest addition to the family.
{4 weeks old}

The traditional crazy shot.

But Remember, As Far As Anyone Knows We Are A Normal Family

The Day After Christmas and All Through the House... there is a mess.

Monday, December 28, 2009

Last night was the last of our wonderful Christmas celebrations we attended.

In the past 4 days...

We ate...

Opened gifts...

Ate some more...

Greeted family...

Laughed til our bellies hurt...

Ate some more...

Traveled...

And...

I took over 800 pictures!!

Once I get my house back to working order and all of our new things organized and neatly put away, I will upload all those pictures to my computer, pick out the keepers, put them through my post processing workflow, and then share my favorites with you.

But I leave you one photo for your eyes to feast on. I am particularly pleased with this picture that I took while driving through some Christmas lights.

Happy Birthday to my Grandma!

Merry Christmas

A Special Delivery for Cayman

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Cayman received a Christmas package in the mail this week. It was from our blogging friend and a fellow member of the Buckeye nation, Sarah.

Joyce, that's Sarah's mom, told me that Sarah insisted on Cayman needing this.

I was dieing to know the contents of the package from the moment the mail lady brought it to our door that day. But Cayman and I waited til Daddy was home that evening to watch her open her first Christmas present this season. So after supper was eaten, the kitchen cleaned up, bath done and PJ's on, we set Cayman down with her specially delivered package.

Inside, there were several Buckeye items!

A dress.{The look on Cayman's face means bedtime was nearing.}

Hair Bows.

A hat.

Socks.

A Purse.

Leggings.

"Thank you Sarah for this sweet, sweet gift!! You know exactly what we like!!"

My compliments to Lynda, over at Kate & Bud's Closet, the artist behind this line of beautifully hand painted clothing.
