Mission Organization

Yesterday, I briefly mentioned our home's undefined spaces cause a bit of a problem for me to stay organized. Here is what I mean by that (one example):

In our house there is this closet...

It was originally designed to be a coat closet. Later, an addition was build onto the front of the house creating a new entry way along with a another coat closet.

I have no need for two coat closets.

So, when we moved in, I decided the old closet would make a great place to store all my cleaning supplies and other household items like light bulbs and things of the sort. There was a bit of a problem though. Being designed to store coats, there was only two, small shelves in the whole space which resulted in one very messy, unorganized, piled on top of each other, broom closet.

So, we gave the closet a makeover, repurposing its space, so that it is now clearly defined as a well organized broom closet.

I am grateful for my willing and newly DIY husband that helped put my cleaning frustrations to an end by bringing my organized plans to a reality.

oh also, i'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you watch a lot of HGTV. why do i think so? because you call a closet a "space" lol

i love on that channel how every room is a 'space.' there are no rooms, only spaces.

my new favorite show is Property Virgins.

Way to go Mike!! It looks so great! And way to Kristen with the organization...I like your "space". So does Mike get his massage now?? :)

that is awesome!!

I love the transformation of the "space". I had to laugh at David's comment because my husband hates it when they talk about it as a space and not a room.

UGH, I REALLY need my closets to look like that! Wait a sec, I need my entire APARTMENT to look like that before the baby gets here! Where did you get those shelves??

Kristen said...

Carey,

We bought the shelves at Lowe's. They are by rubber maid. We hung them by the Fast Track system.

David,

Yes that is a Dyson vacuum. I love it! It sweeps everything from my carpets to the hardwood floors. There is a switch to turn off the moving bristles so it can sweep over the hardwood floors perfectly. It has simplified sweeping my floors immensely.

Also, yes I do watch a lot of HGTV...well sometimes. Lately not so much, because it puts within me the bug to renovate my kitchen. I have all these great ideas but no money. haha. So, in resistance to move from my content state, I have to limit my HGTV viewing. But you got me thinking about how they use the term "space". I must have subconsciously picked up on that and started doing it myself. Thanks to you, I will always be aware of it when I"m doing it now. :)

First of all, I must say that David and I love HGTV.
I mention David only because Donald could care less about HGTV...except House Hunters....he will watch an ocassional episode with me.

Second of all, after seeing these before and after pics I think you deserve your own show on HGTV!

If you and Lisa didn't have babies to care for I would beg you both to come and get my disorganized self organized. I think Donald and Mike would be needed as well. Your closet looks great.
