Calling For a Schedule

Cayman's one night stretch of sleeping through the night a couple blogs ago has not continued. She still is eating every 4 hours, but she's a lot faster at it. She seems to be outgrowing her colic-gas stage and so she's a lot less fussy now too. All this makes getting up with her in the night a lot easier. Before, if I was solo on waking up with her it would take me up to 2 hours at a time: feeding her, burping, then calming her fussiness back to sleep, and then pumping. We've upgraded her to the next level of nipple flow, so she's eating faster without drowning in it, and she goes right to sleep when she's done eating. Then all I have to do is pump, and half an hour later I'm back in bed. All this taking only about one hour for me! I feel much more rested than what I did before. Cayman and I have been working hard on having a more structured schedule of awake and sleep times. It gets a little difficult during the week when Daddy is off work because he leans towards his nocturnal weekend schedule. But there's times when Cayman and I have to go to bed and get up without him. We don't like doing that because we love doing everything with Daddy! But this seems to be making things run smoother around here. And smoother means a less cranky mother/wife, or in Mike's words "she's less nagging" :o).

It's been tough getting Miles on a schedule too. He's finally getting better at sleeping to where he will sleep in about 2 five hour stretches at night. I'm so glad to hear no surgery for now! Our Neurosurgeon said, sometimes these little babies have to "grow into" their shunts. They don't always work perfectly- but that doesn't mean they aren't working! Miles has had fluid built up along his tract for about 4 months now. His chest used to look like there was a hot dog stuffed under the skin! Luckily that part has finally gotten better, but the fluid on his head is still there. The Dr. is not worried. Any way---hopefully you guys can have some calm time at home now!

Kadyn, no matter how hard i try i just can not put him on a schedual. I believe its all his hospital stays and surgeries. He was back to like a newborn waking up every 2-3 hours to eat this past week but i think its because he was sick and eating from the bottle was tireing for him. Kadyns daddy works the weekdays midnights, and its hard to find family time with that but more so because he has school three days a week. But things get easier...well thats what i was told...lol

Hi Kristen! I saw on Sherri's blog that you don't have an therapy sessions set up for Cayman yet. Definately do it! The hospital had called the developmental center where I live even before they sent Elisabeth home from the hospital and had something set up. For the first 6 months they came every other week. Then they increased it to weekly. And now they have decided to come twice a week! I really enjoy having them come work with Elisabeth.
As for a schedule....I can't offer any advice. I have lucked out! I have had 3 daughters in a row that have slept through the night by 2 months old. I hope Cayman decides to start sleeping through the night again :)
